Post Thanksgiving Post #2

Family can be a great motivating factor for any man's success. Some of us less motivated souls will drift on memory bliss for ever and be content with easing by in life forever...that is until the blessing of children come along. There is something about another human being being totally dependent upon you that completely obliterates the need for all the other bullshit in life.

Family makes the difference.

I'm grateful for Kristian, Gracie and Judah. They gave me a reason to strive for excellence...because they are excellent.

Post Thanksgiving Post #1

Wow...what a wonderful Thanksgiving '07 was. For the first time in my five year marriage we actually hosted the family. Everything turned out better than expected...so much so that it has caused me to do some post-Thanksgiving reflection on what I am really thankful for.

First Things First - Lori G.

When I said my wedding vows at sunset on the island of Maui in April of '02, I had no idea what a wonderful adventure I was embarking on. I'm thankful for every day I have had with a person who has taken everything that I am and has given me everything that she is. Life before Maui seems like a pale shadow of real life...life since Maui has afforded me daily miracles of the beauty of knowing intimately who a person is...body, spirit and soul.

Little Dragon - "Twice" mp3

Kyle at Aurgasm recently posted this gem for your listening pleasure. The following is his description of Little Dragon.

"If a few piano keys can give way to glitchy sounds swirled around to accompany a soulful, jazzy, baseline bop, then strutted with an array of atmospheric keyboards, hi-hats, and 80's movie charm, where a melodically luscious, poignant voice plays freely atop a heartbeat's skyline, then you would be listening to Little Dragon."

Little Dragon features vocalist Yukimi Nagano and her close high school friends from Sweden. According to her bio she was born and raised in Gothenburg, Sweden to a Japanese father and an American mother, Yukimi says, 'I grew up listening to American folk because of my Mom, but I have always had an affinity for R'n'B'".

The selection above is breathtaking in its simplicity. Simple yet profound minor key piano and haunting strings...but its the vocals that cause you to stop and take notice.

Shelly Bhushan - "Beautiful Me" mp3

Aretha Franklin, Joss Stone, Alanis Morrisette, Bonnie Raitt, even Stevie Wonder....Shelly Bhushan has been compared to all these great artists and yet it's still difficult to pigeon hole her into any one musical style or genre. Born and raised in Texas one can definitely hear the Texas blues undertones in her soulful voice...but to call her a blues or soul singer does not begin to touch the depth and richness in her songwriting and singing. On September 20th she released her debut album titled "Picking Daisies". The song posted above "Beautiful Me" is a great example of what Shelly means when she says that "...one can be soulful and not be trite, and/or be a singer/songwriter without being boring and straight."
